Working Together to Achieve Our Goals
Sinajana, GUAM – On May 2nd, 2017, 4-H visited CL Taitano’s 4th Grade Class to teach on the role of Insects and Pests in our Garden along with the proper needs of plant survival. During this day’s workshop 4H worked with the students to stress the importance of taking care and maintaining their plants. This day’s workshop is a vital part of teaching our youth about gardening because we are able to really incorporate gardening with our own needs. Our goal is to express to the children that plants are living things too and just like us we must nurture them and keep them healthy.
We aim to teach the students the Life Skill of Self-Responsibility and through every workshop with the students we are able to give them more and more tasks to help them build this habit into their everyday lives along with influencing other Life Skills. The Life Skills we choose to teach the students vary between all our classes, we learn the strengths that each class has and we begin teaching them the Life Skills they need in order to continue strengthening their good habits as well as working harder on other aspects in which the students can grow.
Today’s Life Skill of Team Work focused on teaching the students to work together. The importance of the students practicing Team Work is to allow them the opportunity to understand that this Life Skill will be used throughout their whole life. In school, work and in their community. Team Work is not only a Life Skill that teaches the students how to work effectively with others, but it also allows us to see how the children apply the Life Skills we have already worked with them, such as, Goal Setting, Wise Use of Resources, and Communication. Team Work as a Life Skill will fall into place as the students come to the end of our workshops. The Life Skills that we teach them will better help the students as they grow older and begin taking on more tasks throughout middle school, secondary education, higher education and the workforce. These skills, all incorporated through our gardening projects allow the students to grow with the plants in a fun learning environment.
