Healthy Cooking ETS and Cooperative Extension & Outreach (Nutrition Programs) conducted on June 20th at the ALS building-Classroom Kitchen.
Healthy Cooking ETS and CNAS Cooperative Extension & Outreach conducted a Healthy Cooking Workshop for teens during a summer enrichment program. The teens were first presented with information about our Extension & Outreach and Nutrition Programs, covering who we are and what we do in the community. Then they were given a brief presentation on the “MyPlate” program, focusing on serving sizes for teens, as well as 10 healthy tips for teen girls and boys (info provided by MyPlate.gov). Afterwards, the workshop covered food safety tips in the kitchen and general food safety. The teens then had the opportunity to participate in a “Hands
on Food Demo” within small groups in the classroom kitchen. After the informative presentations on the “MyPlate” & healthy tips for teens, food safety, and open discussion on healthy living, we broke up into cooking groups of three to prepare heathy treats including mini pizzas, layered taco salad, and fruit kabobs with yogurt dip.

There were 21 teen participants and 3 program aids involved in the workshop.
